Psychology Nicole is a straight forward type of girl. She has no problem telling people what she thinks when she thinks it even if it is a very unpopular opinion. She tends to be extremely truthful, even if it might get her into trouble as well. She can’t stand liars. Nicole isn’t the type to back down from a fight (verbally or physically). When it comes to the opposite sex, she is just as straight forward as she is with her friends. She doesn’t like it when people beat around the bush, so she doesn’t do it herself (as that would make her a hypocrite if she did). If she likes a guy, she tells him and she doesn’t fear being rejected (as there are other fish in the sea as the saying goes). She tends to be a dominant type of person even though she really isn’t trying to be. She just calls things as she sees it.

History
Nicole was the last child born to Estella and Baldomero Moreno. According to her other family members, she was a complete accident as her parents were having marriage problems when Estella became pregnant for the third time. Though, the pregnancy helped keep Baldomero in place until the Nicole was born.

Baldomero actually stayed with Estella for another four years after Nicole was born, but in the end Estella’s and Baldomero’s marriage ended in divorce. The couple had married young (when they found out that Estella was pregnant with their first child Alejandro). They weren’t good for each other then, and it seemed to only get worse as time moved on for the couple. The three children that the couple had were given to their mother in full custody. Baldomero was allowed to visit, but he never did.

Raising three children on her own was not an easy task for Estella. She wasn’t a very responsible person to begin with, so with the added stress of taking care of three children (who she blamed for taking away her youth too fast) she became violent towards the children (especially when she drank). Alejandro and Demetrio were old enough to basically defend themselves (though they still got their share of abuse), but Nicole was still rather young and defenseless so she bore the burnt of it.

As Nicole was on the young side when this was occurring, she didn’t much understand why she was getting into trouble all the time. She just assumed that she was upsetting her mother in some way, so she tried her best to keep her happy. When that didn’t work, then she tried to stay out of the woman’s way (by hiding and such). That didn’t work either because there were times that Estella would actually seek the girl out when she was practically mad about something. In the end, Nicole just tried to take it with her brothers trying to defend her when they could.

The older that Nicole got, the more cynical of the world she became. At school she started hanging out with what would be considered the wrong crowd, but oddly her grades didn’t drop (because at home that was the best way to stay out of trouble). At about 14 years old, Nicole joined a gang called the 2nd Street Shadows. They were mostly known for robbing people of their possessions. Though, the only reason why Nicole joined was because she had a huge crush on their leader, Emilio Moretti (who was 17 at the time).

Nicole didn’t really know what it meant to be apart of a gang, but Emilio took her under his wing. He taught her how to fire a gun, use a knife, how to fight, and the general rules of the gang. When she turned 15, they started dating.

One night while Nicole was doing her homework, her mother came home in a rather nasty mood. Like normal, Estella sought out Nicole to work her wonders over on the girl, but something snapped in Nicole that night. Perhaps it was her new found confidence that she got from Emilio, but she wasn’t going to take it anymore. For the first time in her life, she stood up for herself. It was self defense, but the cops heard a different story when they were called. Estella said that her daughter had just brutally attacked her for no reason. Nicole denied the charge, but her criminal record was working against her (assault charges, robbery, etc…), so the cops took Nicole in and put her in Juvenile Hall. She would be released in a year providing she was on her best behavior.

Juvenile Hall actually helped Nicole out. Most of the time, she was defending herself from other trouble making kids, but she was also talking out her problems with the staff. She explained what had had happened to her since she was a little girl. Juvenile Hall was actually protecting her from her mother (which she liked). When her year was almost up, she wrote her favorite aunt Esperanza to see if she would take care of her until she was eighteen so she wouldn’t have to go back to her mother. Her two brothers were all ready, at this point, mooching off her other aunt Isabell. Luckily for her, Aunt Esperanza agreed to take her in, and when she was released from Juvenile Hall she went to live with the woman.

Nicole’s life was much better the moment she stepped into Aunt Esperanza’s home. Of course, Esperanza set some rules for Nicole to follow to prove that she was trust worthy (she just got out of Juvenile Hall after all). The first step was for her to get back into high school, and make good grades. The second was to leave the gang that she was apart of. The second one was actually kind of hard considering that they had become her friends. Emilio was still her boyfriend at the time as well, but she wanted to have a fresh start. She explained this to her boyfriend, and they broke up after that. Though, she since had spent time in Juvenile Hall and had proven herself within the gang they basically just left her alone (after they got into a few fights with her).

Once she was clear of the gang, she was well on her way on pleasing her Aunt. She got a part time at a local general store just as an after school thing, but she felt it was just too slow for her liking.

After her graduation from high school, Nicole continued to work for the general store while she thought about what she wanted to do. She had become friends with Emilio again, so she asked him for some help. He was well connected, and he set her up with an interview with the Giovanni family. She didn’t know much about the family other than the fact that they had a bunch of kids working for them it seemed. After a short interview, Nicole was let into the family.
