History
Kevin was born from a marriage that started out deeply passionate and burned
out just as fast. His mother left his father when Kevin was ten years
old. Since she was a lawyer the case was far more in her favor and by the end
the only thing Jose had going for him was the meager alimony check she had to
pay because Kevin was left with his father.
By the time Kevin was 13 his father was a full-blown drunkard working his life away at construction sites that Kevin tried to help out in on the side. It was at this stage though that Jose also got into crack and cocaine and turned violent. His need for the drugs took over his life and he didn’t have the money to support that kind of habit.
On the advice of his school counselor Kevin came to the police with what his father was doing. The result was hardly phenomenal. His father hadn’t the money to afford the drugs for the last few weeks so they found nothing in the home or on his person. What they did find was bruises suggesting possible abuse so they used that angle instead. Kevin was sent to a foster home and he hated every minute of it. In a single room with six other kids, the whole place smelled of urine thanks to the younger ones and the older ones were sullen, crying or ignored him. It was like isolation in the middle of the sea of misery.
Finally the charges were dropped there too and Kevin was sent home. His father was hardly thrilled with the boy and took to beating him constantly. Having lost his faith in the police and not wanting to go back to the foster housing, Kevin took it silently.
When he was 16 things seemed to be turning around. His father took a new lover and seemed to shape up slightly for her benefit. She was a nice enough woman at first but clearly wasn’t mentally stable given the amount of pills she took. Then Kevin learned she was addicted to Vikadin and stole it regularly from an old woman she was a live in nurse for. He immediately became disgusted with her and eventually that tension got to the woman who left his father.
The day she left his father flew into a rage and began to beat him savagely. At one point breaking a bottle on Kevin’s right eye. Once he finished screaming from the pain Kevin decided now was a great time to run away from home. He packed only two things: The switch blade he’d gotten from a friend and a bottle of the pills he’d stolen from his father’s x-girlfriend since he was in a lot of pain.
He found a nice place to hide inside a small nightclub that was abandoned and lived there for only a few days before he realized the infection he was getting was making him sick to his stomach. Vikadin wouldn’t help with that so he went out and stole some Tums from a small time drug store. When he came back there was a bunch of people unconscious in the place he’d been living!
He got over his shock and immediately began to help them as best he could. Slowly the children grew into being his family and he took to taking care of them as such. He was shocked - to say the least - when his old friend T.C. showed up looking for him. However, the inclusion of one outsider brought others to bring in theirs and that led to the inclusion of Jade Giovanni. Jade was a little mafia princess who essentially put her claim on everyone, including him. At first they resisted, but given none of them operated in legal society she was actually their best option for money and a future.
When he was 17 the nighclub was raided by military types on Christmas day and the twins Terry and Shay were taken. Furious at their lack of power and vulnerable in the old location, they got new housing (in an aprtment complex) from the mafia and many (including Kevin) enlisted full time. Kevin had to nearly bed to get in as an Enforcer, Jade being very adamant that some one like him would not be trustworthy since he didn't like her at all. He had to agree to "Date" her in order to enlist, and he's really not sure WHY she wants to in the first place.
When he was 18 he tried his hand at matchmaking with T.C. and Saidi, which half worked and half didn't. He didn't get to spend long dwelling on it since shortly after the bombshell was dropped on him as he learned Moka was his half brother! The two had often been noted to "look like brothers" but he'd always chalked it up to being simliar in race and personality. Now it was official, they really were related.
He was 19 when Gregory forced him and Jade to break up, something that Kevin should have celebrated but ended up regretting. Somewhere along the line he'd fallen for her without really thinking about it and having her forcably taken from him because he wasn't good enough for her rich daddy was infurating. Worse, shew as put into a marraige with some douche bag and moved away so he couldn't even SEE her.
When he was 20 his brother began having psychotic fits of rage. Kevin tried to help but all the rescources of the family seemed useless in saving Moka from himself.
Then, as though the end of a very bad season of rain, he was 21 when Jade returned. Like a whirlwind he was swept up with her and the two ended up screwing in a janitor closet shortly after seeing one another! They fought, they bonded and in the end Kevin realized she really might be the one girl he couldn't get over or replace in his life. Which was just about the same time she vanished, replaced by a supposed future son of theirs, and potential dead in the nuclear future they now have to prevent. Devistated, irrate and disbeleiving, Kevin isn't sure what to do.
