Psychology Antisocial, but mostly because she is distrusting of strangers and unsure of herself. Once she warms up to company she tends to move at their pace (especially if they have high energy) and can even become "one of the girls" in a group that laughs and has a general good time. History
Born with the name Maria, her parents were wonderfully sweet and oblivious people who had the best of intentions and no free time to use them. Growing up the young girl got used to having the house to herself, walking to and from school alone even as a small girl, and cooking her own late night ramen bowls.

When she was only twelve she got her first boyfriend, mostly out of desperation to do so since all the other girls had one and the rest of the motivation being that he was one of the more popular and handsome boys of her school. Her popularity soared and her self esteem hit rock bottom quickly. Young Brandon wasn't the best of people, he had picked Maria for one reason only: She was easily made into his bitch. He told her was ugly, and since no one told her another opinion she came to believe it. He told her that she needed to smoke, so she did it and got addicted. Hell, when the boy forced himself on her he didn't call it rape, he called it "her fault" because she "wasn't putting out like she should" and if "she wasn't such a prude it wouldn't have happened".

By the time she was fourteen she had become quite the reclusive young woman but her parents hardly noticed since they were gone so often. They could see she was more quiet, that she was favoring more covering clothing and that she had the smell of cigarettes around her. However each of these things they reasoned out: She was quiet because she had always been a shy girl. She was finally finding her personal sense of fashion, it just so happened to be black and covering. The cigarettes concerned them though, when they confronted her late at night about it she gave them a lie about how all of her friends were smoking but she wasn't, they didn't believe it completely but they were scared to push much harder and ostracize their daughter so they left it alone.

Sadly leaving it alone only mad her feel more isolated, deep down she wanted them to notice her plight and come save her. To her it felt like they didn't even have the time to notice she was miserable! As a result she took up self mutilation.

This caught the attention of a young boy in her art classes named Riley. Maria loved drafting and had a good feel for the math of it and the lay outs. When he noticed the injuries on her and their increasing number he finally confronted her and tried to help her. She was scared, but she was also amazingly happy to have some one take the time to listen.

Sadly, it was what made everything even worse because Brandon saw it all and decided she was sleeping around on him. He became violent with her and took to calling her slut. He threatened that if she left him then he would tell the whole school what a whore she was and she'd never have any friends - ever. A scared teenage girl, preoccupied with her reputation at school, she was too scared to leave him.

A few months later though Riley tried to motivate her to make a difference in her life, when she was too scared to act he got angry with her and then he kissed her. He told her that he'd always liked her, that he would take her away from Brandon and take care of her, but even as he said this he was nearly forcing himself on her in his passionate professions and it terrified her even more so she ran away from him.

One of her supposed "friends" from school ratted out the whole incident to Brandon. When she came to visit him next he was high, drunk and enraged. When she came in he was cleaning up a mess on the counter with a bottle of 409 and when she moved to help him he sprayed it in her eye. Screaming at the searing pain she closed both eyes and he shoved her onto the floor. What followed was horrific and she actually has a hard time remembering most of it except that he used his favorite pocket knife to put slut into her brow and hit her often. At some point his parents came home and called 911.

Her next clearest memories were the doctors telling her that she might be blind and her parents asking her why she'd never told them. She couldn't stand how they acted like this had all been on her, like she had to walk into their bedroom when they'd come home at ten at night to crash and then professed everything to them each night. Her mother slowly shifted from tears to shouting when she learned from the doctors the girl had been mutilating herself as well and was carrying a package of cigarettes.

The pressure was more then a traumatized girl could handle, she packed her things on her first night home and ran away. In the process of her leaving she took a job apprenticing under a freelance journalist named Anna Holmes.

Anna maid most of her money by blackmail photos to major players as she traveled from place to place and she taught little "Jennifer" everything she knew (she didn't give the woman her real name, wanting to depart from her old life completely). Eventually though, Anna ended up making enemies of a small time player in the Giovanni family and when the blackmail card was turned around on the woman the mafia didn't ask her to stop working: They hired her as a Soldier Infiltrator and Jennifer came along for the ride.

Whie she was in the family she made various friends, slowly and over time of course. She was closest to Jamie, a mentor in body fighting who she first met dancing with her at a party. He proved to be a vampire and some one who understood her on a level she'd often been scared to go near. While Doran was fun and endearing, or Finnegan was heartfelt and hardworking, Jamie had an insight into what she was thinking and why. He made her feel comfortable to just be herself, something she wasn't anymore.

When she was 18 Jamie saw her scar. He offered to tell her about his damaged eye if she would talk about her scar and so she did. He never made her feel like a whiner and she actually found it theraputic to talk to him. Sadly the same was not said about Finnegan when he was present for her encounter with Riley. He attempted to get her to talk about it, but he made it sound like she had the option to bitch or not to bitch, so of course she took the latter.
